The FOTI 4 is an ultralight, 33-foot unlimited-style four-man outrigger canoe that can be rigged in minutes using spring pins and a pressure-locking ama system. Designed to deliver the speed and glide of an OC6 in flat water and downwind conditions, it combines high-performance paddling with the versatility and recreational functionality of a smaller surfing canoe. In addition to its many built-in recreational features, the FOTI 4 eliminates the common challenge of leaving paddlers on the beach when OC6 practice attendance results in uneven crew numbers. At the same time, it serves as one of a coach’s most effective tools for evaluating crew combinations, developing paddlers, and teaching steering.
No Paddler Left Behind
The primary purpose of the FOTI 4 is to solve a common challenge faced by canoe clubs everywhere: uneven crew attendance.
Whether eight, nine, or ten paddlers show up for practice, coaches can create balanced training crews without leaving anyone on the beach. Instead of paddling with four and five paddlers in separate OC6s, clubs can place three or four paddlers in the FOTI 4 and maintain a productive, full-strength practice.
The result is more efficient training, better participation, and greater flexibility for coaches and crews alike.
To maximize versatility, Seat 2 is mounted on an adjustable track. When paddling with only three crew members, the seat can be moved toward the center of the canoe to properly balance the hull. This transforms the FOTI 4 into a well-balanced OC3 while maintaining the same excellent handling characteristics, responsiveness, and performance expected from a full four-person crew.
All Waters, All Purposes
In open-ocean conditions, the FOTI 4 easily picks up bumps and surfs much like the longer performance OC6 canoes, yet is more nimble and responsive in the trough. Its ample volume, combined with an optional spray skirt system gives the crew confidence in rough water.
In flat water, the canoe’s speed aligns with that of an OC6, allowing the 4 man crew to stay with the OC6 pack during training.
However, the FOTI 4 is not limited to training and racing. Its thoughtfully designed “Rec Deck” incorporates an open cockpit layout with ample storage capacity for a wide variety of adventure essentials.
